In the outlet notch giving access to the Ionian Basin. This photo is very deceptive. The white “hills” in the background are actually about 1 1/2 miles away. We are on a scree ledge about 200 ft above the basin. This was my route out of the Ionian Basin in 1984. It seems so different from this perspective. This is cross country area and no established trails can be seen, although foot prints are seen at times. The trained eye can see where others have passed, usually up or down the scree fields.
